About
Why film studios choose FJL.
FJL has been collecting waste from the West London and Thames Valley studio belt across decades. Pinewood, Shepperton, Leavesden, Elstree, Longcross, Ealing and Riverside all sit inside our regular routes, and our drivers know the back gates, the production offices and the catering compounds without needing a tour. Film waste is its own animal. A quiet office week ends, a build week starts, and suddenly you are throwing out forty pallets of timber, painted MDF and offcut steel by Friday. Crew catering for two hundred lifts food waste tonnage into a different league. Wrap day turns a stage from full to empty in forty-eight hours. We price it, schedule it and turn up. Plain agreements in writing, HVO fuelled fleet, and most new customers find us cheaper than what they had before.
What they need
What film studios need from a waste partner.
Crew catering at scale
Catering trucks for two hundred crew fill food caddies faster than any restaurant kitchen. You need food waste collected daily during shoot, not weekly, and the bins emptied before they smell out the unit base.
Set construction waste
Timber, painted MDF, plasterboard, polystyrene, steel and cable offcuts come out of every build. It needs containers on the lot, scheduled swaps and a clear answer on what can be recycled and what is general waste.
Schedules built around shoot days
Collections cannot block a unit move or rumble past a sound stage during a take. Drivers work to the production schedule, not the other way round, with early or late windows where they are needed.
Wrap and clear-down
End of shoot, a stage goes from full set to empty floor in a couple of days. That is roll on roll off territory. We drop containers, swap them as they fill and clear the lot to handover spec.
How we help
How FJL helps film studios.
FJL runs film studio waste the way the studios actually work. Drivers know the studio access points at Pinewood, Shepperton, Leavesden, Elstree, Longcross, Ealing and Riverside, they know which gate handles trade waste and which is locked off for cast, and they plan collections around shoot calendars rather than fixed industry routes. That sounds small until a lorry rumbles past a live take.
We run the three Simpler Recycling streams every studio needs from a compliance standpoint, food waste, dry recyclables and general waste, with paper and card separated where volumes justify it. On top of that we layer production waste. Set construction skips and roll on roll off containers for timber, MDF and plasterboard. Daily food waste caddies for crew catering. Confidential shredding for scripts and call sheets. Hazardous streams where productions use solvents and paints. WEEE for end-of-shoot kit clear-outs.
The commercial side is simple. Plain agreements in writing with terms spelled out up front, and a real account manager who picks up the phone when a date moves. 28 years of industry experience and an HVO fuelled fleet based in Uxbridge means we are close, we are flexible and our route density across the studio belt keeps pricing fair. Most production accountants find us cheaper than what they had before.

FAQ
Common questions about film studios waste.
Do you collect at Pinewood, Shepperton and the other major studios?
Yes. Pinewood, Shepperton, Leavesden, Elstree, Longcross, Ealing and Riverside are all inside our regular routes. We have dedicated studio pages with collection detail for each one.
Can you work around shoot days?
Yes. Production schedules drive when we collect, not the other way round. We run early morning or late evening windows where a daytime lorry would interfere with a live shoot or a unit move.
Do you handle food waste for crew catering?
Yes. Catering for a full unit base produces food waste at restaurant volumes. We supply 240 litre caddies on the catering compound and collect daily during shoot, scaling back when the production wraps.
Can you supply skips for set builds and strikes?
Yes. Builders skips for build weeks, roll on roll off containers for big strikes and wrap-outs. We swap containers as they fill rather than leaving you with an overflowing skip on the lot.
Does Simpler Recycling apply to film productions?
Yes. Productions operating from English studio facilities are subject to Simpler Recycling, with separated food waste, dry recyclables and general waste collections. The rules took effect on 31 March 2025 for businesses with ten or more full-time staff, and run for micro-firms from 31 March 2027. Most production companies fall into the first bracket. The Environment Agency issues a compliance notice first, then has EPA 1990 enforcement powers.
How do your agreements work for productions?
We use straightforward service agreements with term length, notice and scaling spelled out up front. If you need to scale up for a shoot and back down after wrap, that gets built into the agreement rather than running into penalty clauses.
Can you handle a full wrap-out clear?
Yes. We will roll on a 20 or 40 yard container, swap it as it fills and clear the stage or backlot back to handover spec. Day rates available where you need a vehicle on standby through a strike.
What about confidential script and call sheet shredding?
Covered. Lockable consoles inside the production office, scheduled collections and certificates of destruction. Important during pre-production when scripts are circulating in hard copy.
