Why vapes cannot go in the bin
Every disposable vape and e-cigarette contains a lithium battery and electronics. That makes them Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, and often hazardous waste. Thrown into general waste or mixed recycling, those batteries get crushed, short out and start fires, and bin-lorry and recycling-plant fires from vapes and batteries have become a serious, well-documented problem.
Single-use disposable vapes were banned from sale in the UK from 1 June 2025, but the waste has not gone away. Businesses still need to clear old stock and handle reusable vapes, pods and cartridges, all of which are electrical waste. A dedicated collection service keeps them out of your bins, removes the fire risk, and gives you the compliance paperwork.

Can you put used vapes in general waste or normal recycling?
No. Vapes and e-cigarettes contain lithium batteries and electronics, so they are classed as Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). Putting them in general waste or mixed recycling is not compliant and the batteries regularly cause fires in bin lorries and recycling plants. They must be collected and recycled separately.
How does a business dispose of used disposable vapes?
