About
Why restaurants & hospitality choose FJL.
Hospitality produces more food waste per square foot than any other sector, and bin storage is almost always the smallest space in the building. Glass piles up after a busy Saturday, cardboard from deliveries fills the yard by Monday lunch, and the bin store sits a few feet from where the chef is plating. FJL brings 28 years experience, working with kitchens, pubs, hotels and event venues across West London, Surrey and the Thames Valley. We know the difference between a gastropub on a quiet high street and a 200-cover restaurant clearing two services a day, and we build the round to match. Early-morning collections, sealed caddies, glass rotations that keep up with the weekend, and a real person at the depot in Uxbridge when the round needs to flex around a private hire or a heat wave. Most new customers find us cheaper than what they had before, with bin yards that smell less and stay tidier through the summer.
What they need
What restaurants & hospitality need from a waste partner.
Food waste at scale
Kitchens generate huge volumes of food waste, often the biggest single stream by weight. It has to be collected separately under Simpler Recycling, in sealed caddies, on a rotation that matches the trading week rather than a generic Monday and Thursday.
Glass that keeps up
Pubs and bars fill glass bins faster than any other type of business. A round that empties them once a week will be overflowing by Sunday morning. FJL builds glass collections around your busy nights, not the other way around.
Early-morning windows
Bin lorries arriving at 11am during the lunch rush are a non-starter. Most of our hospitality rounds run before 7am so the yard is clear, the back door is free for deliveries, and customers never see a wheelie bin parked on the pavement.
Seasonal flex
Summer terraces, race meetings, festival weeks and Christmas all double your waste overnight. We scale capacity up and back down without rewriting the contract, so you pay for what you actually use across the year.
How we help
How FJL helps restaurants & hospitality.
Most hospitality bin stores were designed for a quieter business than the one operating today. Before we quote, we walk the back of house, look at the access, count the bins you actually need rather than the bins you currently own, and work out where a food caddy can sit close enough to the prep line that the kitchen will actually use it. The Simpler Recycling rules in England now require food waste, dry recyclables and general waste to be collected separately for any business over ten staff, and almost every full-service restaurant or pub is well over that line. We set the streams up cleanly from day one and give you signage that the team on a Friday night actually follows.
On the round itself, hospitality lives or dies on timing. Our drivers know which pubs need an early lift on a Sunday, which kitchens take deliveries from 9am and need the yard clear, and which hotels prefer the bin lorry round the back before the breakfast service. If you have a one-off, a private hire, a Christmas push or a heat wave that means the food caddies need an extra rotation, you call the depot in Uxbridge and a human picks up. No portal ticket, no 48-hour SLA.
The commercial side is just as simple. No auto-renewing contracts, no surprise lifts, no glass-bin surcharges that appear in month three. One clear price, the streams the law requires you to have, and a service that scales with your trade.

FAQ
Common questions about restaurants & hospitality waste.
Does my restaurant have to separate food waste now?
Yes, if you have ten or more full-time-equivalent staff across the business. The Simpler Recycling rules came in on 31 March 2025 for England and they apply per enterprise, not per site. Almost every full-service restaurant, pub or hotel sits well over that threshold. Smaller independents under ten FTE have until 31 March 2027.
How early can you collect?
Most of our hospitality rounds run before 7am so the bin yard is clear before staff arrive, deliveries can use the back door, and you do not have a lorry parked outside during service. We can quote later windows where access requires it, just tell us what time you open.
How do you stop the food caddies smelling in summer?
Sealed caddies, more frequent rotations during warm months, and the right caddy size for the prep line so it gets emptied into the outside bin every shift. The outside food waste bin is then collected often enough that nothing sits over 48 hours in heat. Pest problems in hospitality bin stores are almost always a rotation problem, not a bin problem.
Can you handle a busy weekend if our glass bin fills up?
Yes. We size the round for your worst weekend, not your average one, and if you have a one-off event we slot in an extra glass lift. There is no surcharge for ringing the depot and asking.
We are a small cafe under ten staff. What do we need to do?
You have until 31 March 2027 to comply with the full Simpler Recycling separation, but we recommend setting up food waste and dry recycling now. It costs roughly the same, the streams are cleaner, and you avoid a scramble in early 2027 when every cafe in the country tries to book a new collection at once.
Do you do hotels with multiple bin stores across the site?
Yes. We service hotels across the Thames Valley and West London, including sites where housekeeping, the kitchen, the bar and conference areas all have separate bin points. One contract, one invoice, one driver who knows the site.
What about cooking oil?
Used cooking oil is regulated separately and cannot go in general waste or food waste. We can arrange a dedicated UCO collection alongside your main waste service, on whatever frequency your kitchen needs.
Are you cheaper than the national waste firms?
Most new customers find us cheaper than what they had before, and the contract is plain. Term length, notice and any price-change mechanism spelled out up front, with one clear price per stream rather than a quote that grows quietly over time.
