About
Why offices choose FJL.
Office waste looks straightforward and almost never is. The bin volumes are low, the streams are dominated by paper and card, but the food waste rule still applies even if you do not have a kitchen, the building manager wants one invoice for the whole floor, and the cleaning contractor has its own opinion about what goes in which bag. FJL works with offices across Stockley Park, Slough Trading Estate, the Maidenhead office belt, Hammersmith, Chiswick and the wider Thames Valley. Some of our customers are single-tenant HQs, others are six desks above a shop. With 28 years experience we treat them the same. We set up the bins that Simpler Recycling actually requires, run a predictable weekday round that matches your office hours, and give you one clear price rather than a quote that grows every quarter. Most new customers find us cheaper than what they had before, with cleaner streams and a bin store that does not embarrass them at the next site visit.
What they need
What offices need from a waste partner.
Paper and card volume
Offices generate more paper and card per head than almost any other sector, even in a paperless year. It has to be collected separately from plastic, metal and glass unless we sign off a written co-collection assessment for the site.
Food waste without a kitchen
Simpler Recycling treats tea bags, fruit peel, staff lunches and milk as food waste. You need a separate food caddy even if there is no commercial kitchen on site. A small caddy by the breakout area is usually enough.
Multi-tenant clarity
In a shared building the bin yard might be communal, but each tenant is still responsible for its own duty of care. We can quote per tenant, per floor or whole-building, and provide separate paperwork so each business has its own audit trail.
Shredding alongside recycling
Confidential paper does not belong in the open recycling bin. We provide locked consoles for shredding alongside the normal Simpler Recycling streams, so HR files, finance prints and client notes get destroyed with a certificate of destruction.
How we help
How FJL helps offices.
We start every office quote with a quick walk of the bin store. Office waste volumes are predictable once you know the head count, but the bin sizes you have on site rarely match what you actually generate. A common pattern is too much general waste capacity, not enough card, and no food waste at all. We resize and rebalance, swap in the streams that Simpler Recycling requires, and label everything clearly so the office manager is not the one explaining the colour system every Monday.
The round itself is the easy bit. Offices fit a weekday schedule and the volumes are stable week to week, so we can quote a clear monthly price and stick to it. If you grow, take an extra floor, or run a one-off clear-out, we add capacity for that week without rewriting the agreement. We also handle confidential shredding as part of the same service, with locked consoles, sealed transit and a certificate of destruction for each collection. That sits comfortably alongside your Simpler Recycling paper stream and means your team is not making decisions about which bag a contract goes in.
For multi-tenant buildings we work with both the managing agent and individual tenants. The bin yard runs once, the lift is invoiced cleanly per tenant, and each business gets its own waste transfer notes for the auditors. No auto-renewing contracts, no surprise lifts, and a real person at the depot in Uxbridge if anything needs to change.
FAQ
Common questions about offices waste.
Do we need a food waste bin if we do not have a kitchen?
Yes. Simpler Recycling treats anything from tea bags, fruit, sandwich crusts and milk as food waste, and any English business with ten or more FTE has to collect it separately since 31 March 2025. A small sealed caddy by the breakout area is usually all you need.
We are a small office under ten staff. Are we exempt?
You are in the second phase. Businesses under ten FTE have to comply by 31 March 2027. The threshold is per enterprise, not per site, so a chain of five-person offices that adds up to fifty staff is in scope now.
Can paper and card go in the same bin as plastic and glass?
Not by default. Under Simpler Recycling, paper and card must be separated from plastic, metal and glass unless your waste collector signs a written co-collection assessment for the site. We can do that assessment where the streams genuinely will not contaminate each other, but most offices are cleaner with the separate paper and card bin.
How do you handle a multi-tenant building?
We work with the managing agent for the bin yard and access, and we invoice each tenant separately so each business has its own waste transfer notes for compliance. Or we can do a single building-wide contract billed to the landlord, whichever the building prefers.
Can you do confidential shredding too?
Yes. We provide locked consoles in the office, secure transit and a certificate of destruction for each collection. It runs on the same contract and visit as your Simpler Recycling streams, so you only deal with one supplier.
What about plastic film and packaging from deliveries?
Plastic film officially joins dry recyclables on 31 March 2027. Until then most offices put it in general waste, but we can set up a film stream early if you have enough volume to justify a separate bag, for example a marketing team that ships a lot of merch.
Are weekend or evening collections possible?
Most offices are happiest with a weekday morning round when the cleaners have already bagged up. We can run later or weekend collections where the building requires it, particularly for managed estates with restricted yard access.
What does it cost?
Office quotes are usually keyed off head count, the streams you need and the bin sizes that actually fit your store. Most new customers find us cheaper than what they had before, and the price is one clear monthly figure rather than a base rate plus a list of extras.
