Where an independent fits.

Who owns Suez in the UK now?
Suez reacquired its UK recycling and recovery business from Veolia in September 2024 and reintegrated it into the group. The business had been sold to Veolia in 2022 as part of the merger between the two companies.
Is Suez bigger than Biffa?
It depends what you count. Suez reports more than 300 UK sites and over 25,000 customers across public and private sectors. Biffa reports around 100,000 business customers and around 2 million households. Suez has more sites; Biffa has more commercial accounts. Neither figure tells you much about the service a single site will get.
Does changing ownership affect my collections?
Usually not day to day, because the crews and rounds tend to stay the same. Where it shows up is in account management, billing systems and who you escalate to when something goes wrong. If your provider has changed hands, it is worth confirming who your account manager is now.
What should I compare beyond price?
Notice period, whether the price can rise automatically each year, whether fuel or weight surcharges apply, how quickly a container can be swapped or a frequency changed, and whether the waste transfer documentation is produced on request or has to be chased.
