Compare

Commercial waste companies, compared honestly.

We compete with every company on this page. We have still tried to say plainly where each one is stronger than us, because a comparison that always concludes "pick us" is not a comparison.

Five questions worth more than the headline price.

Most commercial waste quotes are not comparable to each other, because the number on the front page does not include the terms that decide what you actually pay in year three. These are the questions to put to every provider, including us.

What is the notice period, and when does the window open?

This decides when you can move, not the new provider. Most commercial waste contracts need written notice inside a defined window before the end date. Get your current terms out before you start collecting quotes, because the answer often means waiting for a specific month.

Can the price rise automatically, and by how much?

Automatic annual increases are the single biggest difference between a cheap first year and an expensive third year. Ask whether increases are capped, indexed, or at the provider's discretion. FJL does not apply automatic annual rises, which is a term you can hold us to.

Are there surcharges on top of the headline rate?

Fuel surcharges, weight excess charges, contamination charges and container rental all sit outside the quoted collection price with some providers. Ask for the full list rather than the headline number.

How quickly can a bin or a frequency be changed?

This is where local and national operators differ most. If your volumes move seasonally, a provider who can swap a container in the same week is worth more than a slightly lower unit price.

Will you show me the waste transfer documentation and a diversion figure?

Ask to see a sample before you sign, from anyone. The usual failure at an audit is not that the paperwork does not exist, it is that nobody on site can produce it quickly.

FAQ

Comparing commercial waste companies

Who is the best commercial waste company in the UK?

There is no single answer, because the right provider depends on whether you have one site or fifty. National operators like Biffa, Veolia and Suez are built for multi-site contracts and consolidated invoicing. Local independents usually win on responsiveness, contract terms and having someone who knows your site. Work out which of those you actually need before comparing prices.

Is it worth switching commercial waste provider?

It is worth checking, particularly if you have been on the same contract for more than two years and it carries automatic annual increases. The compounding effect of those rises is the most common reason a contract quietly becomes expensive. Check your notice period first, because that determines your timing.

Are national waste companies more reliable than local ones?

Not inherently. Nationals have more depots and more redundancy, which helps on multi-site contracts. Local operators running their own fleet tend to be faster to fix a specific problem, because the person you call knows the round. Reliability is more about whether the provider subcontracts your collection than about company size.

What should I not compare on?

Headline price alone. A quote without the notice period, the annual increase mechanism and the surcharge list is not comparable to another quote. Get all four from each provider and the picture usually changes.
