Simpler Recycling in Acton
Simpler Recycling in Acton.
Simpler Recycling has reshaped what every Acton business of ten staff or more has to put out for collection. From 31 March 2025, offices, shops, cafes, takeaways, gyms, salons, schools and warehouses across W3 have had to separate food waste, dry recyclables and general waste into distinct streams. Most premises along Acton High Street and Churchfield Road were generating food waste already without a proper bin for it, and the new rules mean it cannot go in the general waste any more. FJL has been collecting in Acton for nearly three decades. We help local businesses set up the right combination of containers without the corporate runaround, including the awkward back-of-house bin stores around the Vale and the shared yards behind the Churchfield Road parade. Most new customers find us cheaper than what they had before, and the schedule we build with you is the schedule that gets run, not one passed between three subcontractors.

About Acton
What makes Acton a West London hotspot.
Acton's commercial mix is unusually broad for a single W3 postcode. North Acton's tower cluster and student accommodation generate paper, cardboard and food waste at office and canteen scale. The Churchfield Road and Acton High Street hospitality strip needs separated food waste collected in tight early-morning windows. The Park Royal fringe to the north of the area adds light industrial and food manufacturing tenants who already segregate but now have stricter paperwork. We service all three patterns from the same Uxbridge depot, which means one supplier across an office, a restaurant and a warehouse if a group runs all three.

Why FJL in Acton
Local enough to care, big enough to deliver.
FJL has been collecting in Acton for years. Our depot is a short run up the A40 and our drivers know the awkward turns into the Vale, the loading windows along Churchfield Road and the service access for the North Acton towers. National contractors stretch routes across the whole of West London. We just run them through W3.

FAQ
Common questions about simpler recycling in Acton.
We run a cafe on Churchfield Road with eight staff. Do we have to comply with Simpler Recycling yet?
Not until 31 March 2027. The 10+ FTE deadline that came in on 31 March 2025 does not capture under-ten micro-firms until the second phase. That said, food waste segregation makes sense to put in place now. Most of our W3 cafe customers in the under-ten bracket have already switched because they prefer a small food bin to mixed general waste sitting on the high street.
Can FJL collect food waste from the North Acton office and student housing cluster?
Yes. North Acton is one of our most active W3 collection patterns. Office canteens and student kitchens both produce real food waste volumes and both fall in scope. We supply sealed food caddies sized to the building, with collection windows that work around office hours and student footfall around the station.
Does Simpler Recycling apply to our small Acton charity shop?
If the parent charity has 10 or more full-time-equivalent staff counted across the whole organisation, yes, your Acton shop is in scope. Headcount is per enterprise, not per site. Charity shops are named explicitly in the regulations. Plenty of charities we serve started with one compliant Acton branch and rolled the same setup out across their estate.
