About

Why document shredding choose FJL.

If your business handles personal data, the moment you put paper records in a normal recycling bin you have a UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 problem. Confidential shredding solves it. FJL collects paper in locked consoles or sacks, takes it to a secure facility for destruction, and issues a certificate of destruction so you have the audit trail if the Information Commissioner ever asks. For sensitive sites we also run on-site shredding using a mobile shredder that destroys the paper before it leaves the car park, with you present if you want to watch it happen. We have been an independent waste operator across West London, Surrey and the Thames Valley with 28 years experience. Most new shredding customers find us cheaper than what they had before, with paperwork that holds up in a compliance audit. Once the paper is shredded it is baled and recycled, not landfilled.

What they need

What document shredding need from a waste partner.

Compliance with UK GDPR

Personal data on paper needs to be destroyed securely. A normal recycling bin is not destruction, and the Information Commissioner has fined businesses for less.

Certificate of destruction

Every collection comes with a certificate documenting weight, date and destruction method. That is the audit trail you need if a regulator ever asks.

Locked consoles or on-site shredding

Standard service uses locked consoles on your premises emptied on a schedule. For sensitive material we bring a mobile shredder to your car park and destroy it there.

Ad-hoc or scheduled

One-off clear-outs for archive purges and office moves, or regular scheduled collections every week, fortnight, month or quarter, sized to how much paper you generate.

How we help

How FJL helps document shredding.

We place lockable consoles or wheeled bins on your site, sized to the volume of paper you generate. Staff drop confidential paper through a secure slot, the consoles stay locked at all times, and we collect on a schedule that fits the practice or office. You never have to think about it. The paper is taken under chain of custody to a secure facility, shredded, baled and recycled. A certificate of destruction lands in your inbox after every collection with weight, date and destruction method, which is what an Information Commissioner audit will want to see.

For higher security work, solicitors archive purges, healthcare records, financial records, anything where you want to see the paper destroyed before it leaves the premises, we run on-site shredding. A mobile shredder turns up, parks at the site, and destroys the paper in front of you. You get the certificate the same day and the shredded material is taken away for recycling.

We work regularly with solicitors and accountants doing seven year file purges, healthcare practices on routine record destruction, schools clearing pupil records under retention schedules, and financial services firms on regulatory disposals. Whether the job is a one-off skip-out of an archive room or a weekly console collection, you get the same paperwork and the same chain of custody.

FAQ

Common questions about document shredding waste.

Do I get a certificate of destruction?

Yes. Every collection comes with a certificate showing the weight of paper destroyed, the date and the method. That is your audit trail for UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and any sector regulator who asks.

What is the difference between on-site and off-site shredding?

Off-site is the standard service. Paper goes into locked consoles on your premises, we collect them and the paper is destroyed at a secure facility under chain of custody. On-site means a mobile shredder parks at your premises and destroys the paper before it leaves the site. On-site costs more and is used for higher security work, but you get to watch it happen.

Can I do a one-off shred instead of a regular collection?

Yes. Archive clear-outs, office moves and seven year file purges all run as one-off jobs. Tell us the volume, in archive boxes or cubic metres if you have a rough idea, and you will get a clear price back today.

What happens to the paper after it is shredded?

It is baled and sent for recycling at a UK paper mill. Shredded confidential paper does not go to landfill.

Is shredding required by law?

Destroying confidential paper securely is not optional if you hold personal data. UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 require appropriate security measures for personal data right up to destruction. Putting confidential records in a normal recycling bin is not appropriate security, and the Information Commissioner has issued penalties for that exact failure.

Which sectors do you work with most?

Solicitors, accountants, healthcare practices, schools, and financial services firms make up most of the shredding book. The common thread is regulated personal data and statutory retention schedules.

Can you handle hard drives or media?

Paper is our main shredding service. For hard drives, magnetic tape and other media destruction we will tell you straight if a specialist partner is the right call, rather than promising something the kit is not built for.

How quickly can you start?

Consoles can usually be on site within the week. One-off shreds can often be booked for the same week if the volume fits the round. Ring or send a postcode and a rough volume and you will have a price today.
